With Structure, you can create complex, rich patches by blending together multiple samples and effects. Each patch can have an unlimited number of parts, and each part can consist of a single sample, multiple samples, a sub-patch, a MIDI processor, and audio and MIDI effects.
All of these elements can be rearranged and tweaked for extensive sound experimentation. Structure supports samples with any standard bit depth, sample rate, and surround format — up to bit, kHz, 7.
Plus, its built-in REX file player can handle any tempo you may wish to work into your projects. Structure comes equipped with an integrated Sample Editor, enabling you to tweak and fine-tune a sound without leaving your DAW. It also provides per-zone editing, allowing you to alter different characteristics of a sound using standard waveform tools, or manipulate various parameters such as the pitch, envelope, filter, amplifier envelope, output, and effects routing.
The Sample Editor is resizable and can be stretched across your computer screen for precise editing. Structure also features an integrated multi-effects processing engine that offers over 20 types of world-class effects algorithms in stereo and surround. Choose from a variety of reverbs including stereo and surround convolution reverbsdelays, compressors, EQs, and more.
You can meticulously dial-in a custom effect to complement your sound, or select any of the hundreds of presets for a quick enhancement with zero effort. An unlimited number of effects can be inserted within each patch, and you can route any patch, part, or zone to four global effects sends — each of which features four effects inserts — enabling you to fine-tune each aspect of your creation for unprecedented patch design.
Structure features a built-in database and file browser to help you locate sounds quickly and manage your sound library. Search for sounds by instrument type, manufacturer, style, name, and more, and audition samples right in the browser to find that perfect starting point. The sheer number of companies producing top-quality software for orchestral sampling has increased substantially of late, and there are more options now for the digital composer than ever before in this ever-expanding ecosystem.
We in the audio tech world revel in choice and variety, not least so when it comes to virtual instruments. The quantity and quality of libraries available is frankly staggering. This list is by no means complete, but we at S1E feel that these 30 plugins represent the latest and greatest Orchestral VIs currently available.
The list is in no particular order. Take control of an piece ensemble, recorded with the utmost precision in four different settings for maximum flexibility and realism.
Keith O. Johnson, the EastWest: Symphonic Orchestra is the most awarded orchestral collection ever, including winning Sound On Sound's Reader's Choice Award an unprecedented 3-times, and the first orchestral collection to be recorded in a "state of the art" concert hall where orchestras mainly perform.
These playable ensembles cover different sections and groups from the orchestra as well as the entire orchestra playing together. This award-winning collection has set the standard for orchestra sample libraries. At its heart is a piece orchestra accompanied by a thunderous cinematic percussion section, dynamically layered loops designed by award winning music makers, an enormous steam synthesiser and many more surprises. Finger position is, for the first time, controllable by the user, so you can play as far up the strings as you want, and get a fuller more romantic Hollywood sound.
Vibrato intensity and extensive dynamics are controllable by the user. Extensive multi-dynamic true legato has been sampled for all sections in three different categories: slurred, portamento, and bow change.
This results in unsurpassed legato performance that has never been available. The library was designed by composers, for composers, with direct feedback from the film music community during its development. The result is a string library that is easy to use, composer-friendly, with unparalleled recording quality. Whilst retaining the warm luscious tones produced in the world class Verbrugghen Hall of the Sydney Conservatorium, the new version features a sleek new interface and even smoother legato.
There is a focus and ease of use in this Virtual Instrument that is unprecedented. Hollywood Brass runs flawlessly in the completely revamped PLAY 3 engine and has 10 times the content and detail than its closest competitor, without any additional complexity or clutter. Session Horns Pro gives you 30 GB of authentic contemporary horns: three saxophones, two trombones, three trumpets, tuba and flugelhorn.
It features 38 pre-arranged section presets across all popular styles to get you started, and is suited to every type of contemporary music. Our CineBrass core library, released in Junecovers the essentials of the orchestral brass section, and functions as a solid foundation in our composing templates. To achieve the highest level of realism and detail, we have recorded every interval up to an octave.
That means you will hear the natural transitions from one note to another. Every true legato patch is sampled with three dynamic crossfade layers! All the libraries contains advanced legato and articulations to cover all your compositional needs ". Featuring wonderfully organic recordings, and groundbreaking programming, HWW is quickly becoming the leading woodwind solution for composers around the world.
CineWinds PRO expansion fills out the remainder of the orchestral woodwind section, and also offers an eclectic choice of ethnic, Renaissance, and period wind instruments most often used in film scoring. True Strike, the first volume in the series, focuses on orchestral percussion. Offering 51 orchestral percussion instruments in multiple concert hall mic positions, True Strike is the only orchestral percussion library you will ever need. Alongside a huge array of large and small percussion, timpani, bass drums and cymbals lie a collection of mallet instruments described by Sound On Sound magazine as "to die for".
This package includes many more percussion instruments for your template ". In PLAY 4, EastWest replaced some third party components; added Avid's new AAX format that will allow Pro Tools 11 users to use EastWest's virtual instruments bit, greatly improving performance; added new time-stretch software optimized for loops with sync to sequencer ; added a new mixer page with sub-channels for mic positionsadded background loading, and other new features.
Commanding a powerful and magnificent sound, the piano behind this sample library is an imposing hand-made FAZIOLI ten foot Grand Piano, created by the makers of world's most expensive grand pianos, and is considered by many to be the Elite of all grands.
Addictive Keys isn't just a collection of sampled keyboards.Logic Pro X Studio Horns and Studio Strings are high-quality multisampled brass and string libraries that offer a collection of solo and grouped instrument presets.
Each preset provides a range of articulations so you can create expressive, nuanced performances and recordings. Some articulation features, such as polyphonic true legato, apply to all presets.
Others articulation features are specific to certain instruments. If necessary, click the disclosure triangle next to Details in the New Tracks dialog, then choose Studio Horns or Studio Strings from the Instrument pop-up menu. Studio instruments are available in mono, stereo, or multi-output format. Studio instruments also include preset patches, with predefined articulation sets and effects. Patches include presets based on classic recordings such as Abbey Wood and Memphis Blast. Articulation features in the Studio instruments help you create more realistic string and horn parts. Studio Strings provides several articulations for falls, and Studio Horns provides several articulations for falls and doits. You can play these articulations on your keyboard like any other articulation. To hear an articulation from the plug-in window, click on the Articulation pop-up menu in the plug-in header and choose from the available articulations.
Studio instruments show the most recently played articulation in the plug-in window. You can create a smooth fall or doit using the Piano Roll editor.
To load an articulation set, make sure to first select a Studio instruments patch using the Library. In the Piano Roll editor, add a second note of the same pitch directly following any note.
There should be a minimal gap between the two notes. To perform falls or doits using a keyboard, you can use the predefined keyswitches for falls, doits, and other articulations. These operate in Trigger mode, which automatically creates the Fall or Doit, and places it immediately after the previous note.

Lay down an amazing bass track with dead-on models of three vintage and modern bass amps and cabinets.
To get the perfect tone, switch between two types of input channels. Swap out cabinets and amps. Position one of three mics on different speaker cones. Or blend between amp and DI box signals, just like in the studio.Mark Cousins continues his guide to integrating hardware synths into your Logic setup. Be sure to read part 1 before continuing. Subsequent additional tracks can then be created either by duplicating the audio track or MIDI track.
From just one hardware synth, therefore, you can create a project full of imaginative, authentic-sounding synth lines. Select the physical MIDI output for your synthesiser and audio input, as in the first example. The External Instrument plug-in makes your hardware synth like a virtual instrument.
MIDI can be recorded and MIDI and audio plug-ins added to the signal path, effectively creating a hybrid of the previous two-track approach. The only catch with the External Instrument plug-in solution is recording. The next level of integration is to add some software-based controls for your instrument.
This is particularly useful for hardware like the Roland Boutique series that can occasionally have small controls, or hidden features. Here, you should find the instrument object for the track you created earlier.
Logic will ask you if you want to remove the channel-port assignment, click Remove to okay this. You should still see the MIDI data, however. Moving the fader on your synth should highlight its controller assignment in the Monitor object. Cable the faders serially, starting from the output of the Monitor object and ending with the last fader.
Change their controller assignment for Input and Output to match the controller message transmitted from your synth. Cable the object at the end of the chain of faders, and set its output assignment to correspond to the MIDI output for the synthesiser. The mini onscreen editor accesses your chosen parameters. Dynamic parameter changes can be recorded, with the movements visualised using the onscreen faders, or you can store sounds as part of the project.
One final point worth mentioning is the ability to lock sequencers or LFOs on your hardware synth. Be updated with all the latest news, offers and special announcements. Subscribe now and receive a free chorus plug-in!

Will Betts - 9th April In addition to the features of the channel strip setting you may be familiar with from earlier versions of Logic, patches also save any aux channel sends that are needed to reproduce the complete patch, as well as the Smart Control layout and assignments for the patch.
Also, some patches may use Track Stacks to layer instruments, and to provide tracks to automate effects used in the patch. Most of the content included with Logic Pro X is in the patch format. Loading an existing patch is simple: choose the track in the tracks area you'd like to load a patch onto, open the Library by clicking the Library button in the control bar, and navigate to the patch you'd like to load.
A single click on the patch name in the Library will load it. You'll notice that the library will show different patches, depending on whether you are working with an audio, software instrument including Drummer trackAux, or Output.
In many cases, aux channels with reverb, delay, or other effects will also be added to the mixer, and sends to the aux channels will appear on the channel strip. The patch includes a Retro Synth setting, several audio plug-ins and a send on Bus 1 to an aux.
Looking at the Mixer, you can see the aux channel includes a bypassed Chorus, a Space Designer reverb setting, and a Channel EQ setting.
Had the song already used Bus 1 for some other purpose, Logic would have used the next available bus as a send. This indicates that the patch Insert Slot has Library focus, and so the Library shows patches.
Hover the mouse cursor to the left of other Insert Slots on the channel strip. Notice the gray triangle:. Notice that the library now displays Retro Synth settings instead of complete patches.
You can load a different setting into the Instrument Slot, while keeping the other elements of the channel strip. Likewise, you can focus on any of the audio effects Insert Slots, and the patch Library shows presets for whichever plug-in is currently loaded into the slot:.
If you make changes to a patch or setting, you can save it by placing the focus on the slot that contains the altered setting, and click the Save button at the bottom right of the Library.
