On this page, you will find the top recommended Azerite traits to choose when playing a Discipline Priest in World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth, Patch 8. For more information about how the new Essence system introduced in Patch 8. This page has ordered lists for rankings of all of the traits for Discipline Priests.

It is important to note that the only traits that stack are any bonus healing, bonus stats, damage increases, or increased absorbs. Traits that do not stack are any buff or damage over time extension, stack counts, duration, number of targets, or proc rate increases. The only damage increases that contribute towards Atonement healing are those that come from your spellbook. This section will discuss the recommended Azerite traits for both dungeons and raids.

While these are currently recommended, any balance changes to traits will likely change our recommendations. Some players will use pure damage traits to further increase their damage, but we do not recommend this unless you are extremely comfortable with not only Discipline Priest itself, but with the group you are running with as well. The vast majority of the value of both traits comes from the Atonement duration increase and not the increased heal.

The table below provides intellect values for each trait at any given item level. What this helps accomplish is providing players with a method to calculate the value of Azerite pieces and compare them to see which item is better.

In order to use this table, you would follow the formula below:. Here are some additional things to keep in mind regarding these rankings and traits in general: All trait stacking information is held within the image.

All traits that deal damage that do not transfer through to Atonement are not included in this chart. Only traits that increase damage from our spell book spells transfer through to Atonement healing. Traits are always being worked on and tuned so always hold onto your higher item level Azerite gear. Information from logs may also change how traits are valued. It is worth noting that the trait "Twist Magic" depends entirely on your usage of Dispel Magic. There is not much use of this within raids.Click here to watch now!

This scaling will typically make a higher item level piece of gear better, even if it has less ideal traits. Note: This offers an approximate ranking or tier list of available azerite effects based off of testing and analysis from Beta and Live before the release of Eternal Palace. Many damage based Azerite pieces do not proc Atonement and therefore are not ranked in this tier list as a result.

These powers can modify existing spells, provide buffs, deal damage or healing, as well as other effects. The powers below are divided into three rings where they can be found in your Azerite gear: Ring 0 contains Spec powers and is the first section available on each item and will likely be available to select as soon as you acquire a given piece of gear, contain traits based on your class specs. This ring is a new feature, found on Armor starting with Season 2and requires only 15 levels on your Heart of Azeroth to be unlocked regardless of the gear.

Ring 2 contains Role powersbased on the roles your class can perform. It is only found on epic-level gear or higher.

Lower-level gear will only have the other rings. Final Ring always contains Azerite Empoweredwhich increases the item level of the armor piece it is in by 5 item level.

The effect, in turn, increases the power from all previous rings. The first tier of Azerite Powers in an armor piece will have options for each of your specialization, plus a thematic option depending on the source of the armor.

There are other rings, those don't focus so much on your class and are more generic damage, healing, or utility improvements.

The table below shows the ideal Azerite pieces for raids that you can get from raiding or from the Titan Residium Vendor. Stacking more of those "one ofs" is generally not preferred so the list below is intended to give you options to acquire both "one of" traits so that you can fill in the other spots with powerful generic traits as needed.

If you have two pieces of Azerite gear that have the same item level, then it is important to look at what Outer Ring traits they have.

discipline priest azerite traits

As a rule of thumb, the extra Intellect from the higher item level gear will make up for the difference between the traits. Most of the generic Outer Ring traits are pretty good for Shadow, but some of our spec-specific Outer Ring traits are situational or flat out bad.

In the case that you are comparing a mediocre trait to a really good one, the decision of what piece of Azerite gear to wear can go beyond just the item level of the gear and in that situation it can be hard to figure out which is better without simulating your character using either Raidbots or Magicsim.

It is worth noting that if the difference between the traits is very small, then the higher item level pick will be more desirable. Azerite pieces have a high amount of Stamina, increasing your maximum health. This can make a noticeable difference in your survivability overall. The following sections will talk about the strength of our best traits and also the use cases for more situational traits.

Note that we have below to help you compare all the relevant traits. In Patch 8. This trait is generally a decent pickup in the new raid and has no downside to worry about.

That being said, Shadow Priests have great options for Azerite Traits in the raid that will generally lead to us not using Heart of Darkness. These are the most powerful traits on your Azerite gear and will be the primary way to decide what piece of Azerite you should wear when they have the same item level.

Chorus of Insanity is our best trait by a significant margin, for no other reason than it gives you a lot of Critical Strike. This trait performs well in practically any situation, with it only losing value whenever you have downtime which causes your stacks to fall off.

This trait can make up for a lot of item level depending on what trait you are comparing it to, so whenever you see Chorus of Insanity on your Azerite gear it is recommended to look at the rankings below or simulate your own character. Spiteful Apparitions is our second best spec-specific trait and it also does well in almost any situation, outside of situations where targets live for a really short amount of time.

This is due to the fact that Auspicious Spirits scales with the damage of Spiteful Apparitions. This means that regardless of the level 75 talent you pick, the damage that Spiteful Apparitions provides is about equal.

Whispers of the Damned is our third best spec-specific trait and certainly merits being used at least for one of our Azerite Traits. The additional insanity generation from this trait is enough to sustain you a few extra stacks in Voidformwhile also making it a bit faster on average getting back into Voidform. The damage increase to Mind Blast or Shadow Word: Void if you have taken this talent is also a nice benefit. Blightborne Infusion is one of the generic traits that is really strong in all situations because of how much Shadow likes Critical Strike as a stat.

The only downside to this trait is how relatively uncommon it is on Azerite Gear. Death Throes and Searing Dialogue are both traits that perform very well in dungeons, or any time there is AoE.

Thought Harvester will situationally be good for dungeon content, as the proc that increases Mind Sear damage can provide you with some burst AoE damage if it procs at the right time. Middle Ring traits have a lesser impact on your DPS and they are all fairly close to one another. They are therefore not that likely to impact your decision of what piece of Azerite gear to wear.Hello everyone and welcome to the Azerite Trait Analysis for 8.

From my understandment of the traits, it seems to me the it is best to get one of each of the top 3 talents, and not to get 3 of the best one. Is that understood correctly? Stacking the top 3 is totally fine, its more about getting the gear combinations that make the most sense. John what helm?

Discipline Priest Healing Azerite Traits/Powers and Armor — Battle for Azeroth (BfA) 8.3

Hello Warcraft Priests! I just got a piece of gear with liberators might on it, but dont see that listed anywhere on these charts. I was surprised to see it ranked so low in the dungeon composite. Also you should definitely mention that you absolutely should always wear one piece of armor with either Laser Matrix or Archive of the Titans to get the Reorigination Array in Uldir, otherwise people might skip on those traits entirely.

Guide provided by Wowhead. These will include, but not be limited to, the following in Tier 1 and 2 slots. Sins of the Many in particular stands out in the 75 row as a significant damage and healing bonus, pushing the spec to be one of the highest damage dealing healers available at the moment.

While offering strong damage their utility to the group is also very valuable with both Power Word: Barrier and Pain Suppression available as tank externals and can be used on other players taking heavy hits if need be.

Heavy absorbs through Rapture allow Discipline to better prepare for large bursts of pulsing damage by blanketing the group in heavy shielding, then allowing the casting Priest to focus on healing through Atonement rather than having to stop damage to spot heal with Shadow Mend.

Shadowfiend can also be leveraged to be a huge damage cooldown, especially when stacked with Haste procs or Bloodlust, or can be utilized as a healing cooldown when needed. Discipline's greatest weakness in Legion was without a doubt survivability as the player pushed towards high keys. Now that healer survivability is less polarizing and bosses have less one-shot level mechanics tied to them, their biggest concern at this point is their sensitivity to specific affixes.

When fighting Grievous, it also presses the player to weave in more direct healing via Shadow Mend to quickly take off Grievous stacks before they ramp up out of control which again, lowers the damage potential. Discipline is also particularly sensitive towards unanticipated and heavy damage on the group that is not prepared for.

One common situation is where that damage reaches a high point with few Atonement s out on the group and minimal DoT spread from Shadow Word: Pain. In order to counter this, you need to look at how heavy of damage is going out onto the group, who is expected to die first, and what other mechanics can hurt or kill your group at the same time.

If you know that one or two targets are adding damage to the group in a focused way, like the Bloodswarmers in Underrot. It can be better to singularly focus the targets attacked by the Bloodswarmers to keep them alive until the Swarmer dies or the player is stabilized, then start bringing up the rest of the group. A common way to avoid getting put on the back foot in the first place is to have a strong opener in every trash pull.

Often, this will involve maintaining Atonement only on the tank on the pull, spreading Pain onto as many mobs as will receive full duration, generally is good, then taking a moment to analyze what else is needed for the group.

If you see that the damage is most singularly focused on the tank, then refresh Atonement onto them and then continue into your Schism window, then refresh Pains after the Schism debuff falls off. Striking a balance between safety and raw damage is key as you learn instances and improve upon them with your group. In a well-practiced team, you will be able to continue cutting corners and reducing Atonement uptime to maximize the Sins of the Many buffs.

The Beguiling affix in Season 3 requires strong coordination in your group to be able to more easily deal with. Azshara scatters three types of Emissaries throughout each dungeon that rotate each week. Two must be focused down and killed while the first one that we will be discussing must simply be drained of its energy. The Enchanted Emissary has a spell reflect bubble around it dealing damage taken by any enemies in the bubble back at the attackers. Any attacks against the emissary itself will knock it back.
